Property Revolution Urges Plainwell Homeowners to Check Roofs as Warm October Weather Gives Way to Rain and Colder Nights

Oct 19, 2026

Property Revolution Roofing and Decks is encouraging Plainwell and nearby Southwest Michigan homeowners to use the current fall weather window to evaluate their roofs before colder conditions settle in.

The National Weather Service Grand Rapids reported unusually warm mid-October conditions on October 12, with temperatures approaching 80°F in parts of West Michigan, followed by additional chances of rain and a significant cooldown later in the week. The Allegan County forecast calls for highs in the upper 50s on Friday followed by overnight temperatures in the mid-30s.

For roofing systems, that transition matters.

Summer heat, thunderstorms, wind, and months of normal weathering can leave behind loose shingles, deteriorated sealant, damaged flashing, clogged drainage systems or small areas of moisture intrusion. Once colder nights, repeated rain, snow and freeze-thaw cycles arrive, those vulnerabilities can become much more difficult to ignore.

“Fall gives homeowners a valuable opportunity to understand the condition of the roof before Michigan winter weather arrives,” said Curt Visser, Founder and CEO of Property Revolution Roofing and Decks. “A small flashing issue or drainage problem is much easier to address before snow and ice are part of the equation.”

Property Revolution recommends that homeowners inspect their property from the ground for missing or lifted shingles, damaged roof edges, loose gutters, clogged downspouts, deteriorated fascia and soffit, and exterior debris left behind by summer storms.

Homeowners should also pay attention inside the attic. Staining, moisture, condensation, or signs of previous water entry may indicate a problem that is not visible from the yard.

Preparing for winter also means thinking beyond the shingles.

The National Weather Service Grand Rapids notes that ice dams can develop when snow melts on warmer areas of a roof and refreezes near colder roof edges. Clear gutters, adequate attic insulation and proper ventilation can help reduce the conditions that contribute to ice-dam formation.

Property Revolution Roofing and Decks provides roof inspections, asphalt shingle roof replacement, metal roofing, roof repair, commercial roofing, and complete exterior services throughout Plainwell, Otsego, Allegan, Wayland, Martin, Kalamazoo, and surrounding communities.

The company is a GAF Master Elite® Contractor. GAF's 2026 program guidelines state that only 2% of roofers in North America are invited to become GAF Master Elite Contractors.

Plainwell homeowners who are unsure whether their roofing system is ready for another Michigan winter can schedule a free exterior inspection with Property Revolution Roofing and Decks before freezing weather arrives.
